The calendar below shows nights when The Doug is not currently available.  See our Rates and Terms (particularly for short/single-night enquiries) below for more information, along with our Cancellation policy.

    Terms & Conditions

    A minimum stay of two nights is preferred (we reserve the right to politely decline single night bookings, especially at weekends).

    For accepted single-night bookings, there is a minimum charge. It may not be possible (or worth your while cost-wise) for us to offer linen and cleaning for short stays (or at short notice) due to the remote nature of Castle Hill village.

    During the winter preference will be given to weekly bookings; winter weekend/short bookings are not normally accepted more than two to three weeks in advance.

    Pillows & duvets are included in the base rate for you to bring your own bed-linen (please bring undersheets, topsheets, pillow cases & towels).  Should you require sheets/pillow-cases/towels/face-clothes, these can usually be provided upon request for a fee per person per stay.

    Dishclothes, teatowels, and other cleaning items are provided for your use.

    If we provide linen for your stay, we’ll also require (and will arrange) house cleaning on your behalf – this reflects the remote nature of Castle Hill village in terms of laundering linen, etc, since there is no cleaner or laundry service based in the village.

    We enjoy sharing our house with guests and are grateful for your inquiries and bookings; however, we only take a certain number of bookings per season, and our rental terms are given here because we believe in being open and upfront in how we manage your inquiries and bookings.

    Payment preferred by NZ bank transfer, or credit card through PayPal (incurs 5% fee to cover PayPal charges); on request we can accept Swift payments from overseas (transaction fees apply).

    Rental rates do not include cleaning which is the responsibility of the renter (we can arrange for cleaning on your behalf), although we’re generally happy if you leave the house as you find it.

    We request a deposit of half the total rental charge to confirm the booking (although accepted single night bookings are invoiced for the full amount), at which time we’ll provide full information regarding the house and it’s facilities.  Any balance is generally requested four weeks in advance of your stay.

    Sorry, no pets allowed on the property.

    Smoking is not permitted inside The Doug.

    It is a condition of your stay that you follow the departure instructions (e.g. turning off/draining water) for leaving the house which will be provided to you when your booking is confirmed.  Payment of the invoice indicates your acceptance of this condition.

    Cancellations

    In case of cancellation, monies already paid are non-refundable if the house cannot be re-let; if the house can be re-let, a $100 re-booking fee will be deducted from any refund. We recommend travel insurance.

    Covid-19 cancellation policy: if you are unable to complete your stay at The Doug due to Covid-19-related government restrictions on travel, we offer a full refund for unused nights (less any applicable fees we’ve incurred if you’ve paid via PayPal or Swift).
    If you’re unable to continue with your stay at The Doug due to your own Covid-19 self-isolation restrictions, we will offer a credit for unused nights.
